A well-structured response can help editors and reviewers see how you have addressed their concerns and improve the chance of acceptance. Here is a concise approach.

Read everything first

Read the editor’s letter and all reviewer reports in full. Note major versus minor points and any conflicting advice. The editor will weigh these; your job is to respond to each point clearly.

Use a point-by-point format

Create a table or list: quote or paraphrase each comment, then give your response and state where changes appear (e.g. "Page 5, paragraph 2"). Be concise but complete. If you disagree, explain why politely and with evidence; do not dismiss the reviewer.

Revise the manuscript

Make the revisions you promised. Track changes or highlight new text if the journal allows. Ensure the revised manuscript and the response letter are consistent.

Cover letter

Briefly thank the editor and reviewers. Summarise the main changes (e.g. "We have revised the methods section to clarify… and added a limitation in the discussion"). Mention any remaining disagreement and your justification, leaving the final decision to the editor.
